Alla Abdunabi (b. 2001, Freiburg) is a Libyan artist working in sculpture and installation.
Exploring the material afterlives of objects, she activates fragments, organic or inorganic, factual or imagined, in order to reveal their latent energy, that is, their soul. What begins as a tactile engagement with an object, inevitably evolves into intangible negotiations with its narrative construction. A material sets off her research; gradually, she attunes to both the contradictions and coincidences latent in its history and the unique responsibilities that come with engaging its matter. Then, moving between the roles of caretaker and aggressor, Abdunabi reorganizes the form of a thing, inducing an object to speak across time, to the needs of the present.
